Laquinimod (ABR-215062) is an orally active immunomodulator derived from linomide. It potently suppresses inflammatory leukocyte infiltration, particularly CD4+ T cells and macrophages, into central nervous system tissues. Laquinimod suppresses the development of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis and experimental autoimmune neuritis, shifting cytokine balance toward protective Th2/Th3 responses with increased expression of IL-4, IL-10, and TGF-beta.
