Isovaleramide is an anticonvulsant small molecule originally isolated from Valeriana pavonii that functions as an inhibitor of liver alcohol dehydrogenase. By inhibiting liver alcohol dehydrogenase and modulating central nervous system signaling pathways, it suppresses neuronal hyperexcitability and demonstrates anticonvulsant effects in preclinical models. Isovaleramide also exhibits sedative properties associated with the modulation of GABAergic neurotransmission. [1][2]
