Inosine is an endogenous purine nucleoside that functions as an adenosine receptor agonist, exerting immunomodulatory and neuroprotective properties. It modulates adenosine receptor-mediated signaling pathways to suppress pro-inflammatory cytokine production, including TNF-alpha and IL-12, while inhibiting NF-kB activation. These cellular actions attenuate localized and systemic inflammatory responses, providing potent tissue protection across preclinical models of inflammation and oxidative injury. [1][2]
