Biological Activity

Histamine is an endogenous biogenic amine that acts as an agonist at histamine H1 and H2 receptors to regulate vascular tone and gastric function. It acts directly on blood vessels to dilate arteries and capillaries mediated by both H1- and H2-receptors, promoting vasodilation and altering hemodynamics. Additionally, histamine phosphate is used to establish animal models of gastric and intestinal ulcers for experimental studies. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
