Biological Activity

H-Cys(Trt)-OH (S-Trityl-L-cysteine) is a specific inhibitor of the kinesin spindle protein Eg5 that reversibly inhibits Eg5-driven microtubule sliding velocity with an IC50 of 500 nM. By targeting Eg5, it disrupts mitotic spindle bipolarity and blocks chromosome segregation during mitosis. This inhibition leads to cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase and induces apoptotic cell death in cancer cells.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
