Biological Activity

Guanabenz Acetate is a selective agonist of α2A-, α2B-, and α2C-adrenergic receptors, as well as an inhibitor of the PPP1R15A/GADD34 regulatory subunit of protein phosphatase 1. By targeting PPP1R15A/GADD34, it selectively attenuates dephosphorylation of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 subunit alpha (eIF2α) under stress conditions. This inhibition modulates the integrated stress response pathway, enhancing cellular resistance to protein misfolding and proteotoxic stress. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
