Biological Activity

GSH (L-Glutathione reduced) is an endogenous antioxidant, free radical scavenger, and essential detoxifying tripeptide composed of glutamate, cysteine, and glycine. It maintains cellular redox homeostasis by directly neutralizing reactive oxygen species and serving as a substrate for glutathione peroxidase and glutathione S-transferases. Through these redox-dependent signaling mechanisms, GSH prevents oxidative stress-induced cellular damage and supports mitochondrial function and cell survival across mammalian tissues. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
