Biological Activity

Glucosamine sulfate is an amino sugar precursor in glycosaminoglycan synthesis that modulates inflammatory responses in cartilage tissue. It attenuates interleukin-1beta-induced activation of the NF-kB pathway in chondrocytes, leading to reduced expression of pro-inflammatory mediators including cyclooxygenase-2. By suppressing extracellular matrix breakdown and inflammatory signalling, glucosamine sulfate helps preserve joint structure and chondrocyte function in models of osteoarthritis. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
