Riboflavin phosphate sodium (flavin mononucleotide, FMN) is an essential flavin cofactor and prosthetic group synthesized from riboflavin by riboflavin kinase. It functions as a critical electron carrier in diverse oxidoreductases, including mitochondrial NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I), and acts as a light-sensing cofactor in blue-light photoreceptors. Through single- and two-electron transfer mechanisms, FMN plays a crucial role in maintaining cellular bioenergetics, oxidative phosphorylation, and redox homeostasis. [1][2]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
