FCCP is a potent protonophore uncoupler of mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation. By transporting protons across lipid membranes, it rapidly dissipates the mitochondrial membrane potential and collapses the transmembrane proton gradient, thereby decoupling oxygen consumption from ATP synthesis. Consequently, FCCP-induced mitochondrial depolarization disrupts cellular energy metabolism, stimulates respiration rates, and triggers selective autophagosomal degradation of dysfunctional mitochondria through mitophagy. - Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
