Equol is a soy-derived isoflavone metabolite that acts as an estrogenic compound and antiandrogen, specifically binding to 5α-dihydrotestosterone (5α-DHT) and displaying affinity for estrogen receptor β (ERβ). By sequestering 5α-DHT, equol prevents androgen receptor activation and downstream androgen signaling, while modulating ERβ-mediated transcriptomic responses. These pathway alterations regulate hormone-responsive cellular proliferation and gene expression in prostate and mammalian tissues. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
