Biological Activity

Echinocystic acid is a natural pentacyclic triterpene compound exhibiting broad pharmacological anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities. It inhibits the activation of the NF-kB and MAPK signaling pathways, thereby down-regulating the downstream production of key pro-inflammatory mediators including TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6. Through these pathway perturbations, echinocystic acid effectively attenuates cellular oxidative stress and suppresses inflammatory phenotypes in biological assays.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
