Dronedarone HCl (SR33589) is a synthetic noniodinated benzofuran derivative and a broad-spectrum multichannel blocker targeting potassium, sodium, and calcium channels. By inhibiting multiple transmembrane ionic currents, it suppresses cardiac action potential propagation and prolongs cardiac repolarization without inducing proarrhythmic side effects. These actions modulate cardiac electrophysiology, leading to effective regulation of sinus rhythm and suppression of atrial fibrillation phenotypes in cardiovascular research models.
