Biological Activity

Doxapram is a central respiratory stimulant that acts as a selective inhibitor of TASK-1 (EC50 = 410 nM), TASK-3 (EC50 = 37 μM), and TASK-1/TASK-3 heterodimeric channels (EC50 = 9 μM). Inhibition of these two-pore domain potassium channels suppresses background potassium conductance, inducing cell depolarization and triggering hyperventilation through activation of peripheral chemoreceptors and central respiratory networks. FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
