Decoquinate is a quinolone coccidiostat and antimalarial agent that targets the mitochondrial cytochrome bc1 complex. By selectively inhibiting mitochondrial electron transport chain activity, decoquinate disrupts mitochondrial membrane potential and depletes cellular ATP in Apicomplexan parasites, including Plasmodium falciparum and Eimeria species. This respiratory chain disruption impairs parasite liver-stage development and cellular growth, demonstrating potent antiprotozoal activity. [1][2]
