Biological Activity

Danshensu (Salvianic acid A) is a herbal preparation with potential antitumor and anti-angiogenesis activities that inhibits cytochrome P450 enzymes, including CYP2E1 and CYP2C9. Downstream, Danshensu attenuates vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) signaling, suppressing endothelial cell proliferation, migration, and capillary tube formation. These actions disrupt tumor-associated microvascular sprouting, leading to reduced vascularization and inhibition of tumor growth in preclinical models. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
