Biological Activity

D-Alanine is an endogenous co-agonist that selectively binds to the glycine site of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor. By binding to the GluN1 subunit of the NMDA receptor complex, D-alanine facilitates glutamate-mediated channel opening, calcium influx, and downstream synaptic transmission. Activation of these NMDA receptor signaling pathways plays a critical role in regulating synaptic plasticity, long-term potentiation, and neurotransmission in the central nervous system. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
