Biological Activity

Cynarin is an artichoke-derived phytochemical that acts as an antioxidant and inhibitor of the T-cell co-stimulatory pathway by blocking the interaction between CD28 on T cells and CD80 on antigen-presenting cells. It promotes the nuclear translocation of Nrf2, restoring the balance between glutathione and reactive oxygen species while preventing mitochondrial depolarization. Through these mechanisms, cynarin exhibits free-radical scavenging, antiviral, and immunomodulatory activities. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
