Biological Activity

Cyclamic acid is a synthetic sweetening agent that functions as an agonist of the human sweet taste receptor complex TAS1R2/TAS1R3. Upon binding to the transmembrane domain of the TAS1R3 subunit, cyclamic acid activates G protein-coupled receptor signaling in taste receptor cells. This activation induces intracellular calcium mobilization and depolarizes gustatory neurons, ultimately transmitting sweet taste perception signals to the central nervous system.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
