Biological Activity

Compstatin is a cyclic peptide inhibitor of primate complement component C3 (IC50 = that selectively blocks complement activation. By binding directly to native C3 and C3b, Compstatin prevents substrate cleavage by C3 convertases, thereby halting activation of both the classical and alternative complement pathways. This inhibition reduces downstream complement-mediated opsonization, leukocyte recruitment, and cell lysis. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
