Colistin Sulfate (Polymyxin E) is a cyclic cationic polypeptide antibiotic that targets lipid A of lipopolysaccharide in the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria. Upon binding lipopolysaccharide, colistin displaces divalent cations, destabilizing outer membrane integrity and causing marked permeability alterations. This disruption leads to cytoplasmic leakage and bactericidal cell lysis against multidrug-resistant bacterial strains. [1]
