Biological Activity
Citric acid is a naturally occurring weak organic acid and a central metabolic intermediate in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle. Within cellular metabolism, citrate serves as a critical regulator of energy homeostasis by inhibiting phosphofructokinase in glycolysis and activating acetyl-CoA carboxylase to promote lipogenesis. Through these interactions, citric acid modulates metabolic pathway flux, linking carbohydrate catabolism to fatty acid synthesis and cellular energy regulation. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
