Biological Activity

Carprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that acts as a selective inhibitor of canine cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) with an IC50 of. By inhibiting COX-2, carprofen suppresses the synthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins, leading to reduced inflammatory responses and pain signaling. It demonstrates selectivity for COX-2 over COX-1, making it a key agent in studying cyclooxygenase pathway modulation and inflammatory regulation in veterinary models. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
