Biological Activity

Carbenicillin disodium is a semi-synthetic penicillin antibiotic that targets penicillin-binding proteins to inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis. By interfering with the transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan biosynthesis, carbenicillin compromises cell wall integrity and structural stability. This disruption leads to osmotic instability, bacterial cell lysis, and cell death in Gram-negative bacteria, demonstrating broad antibacterial activity with low host toxicity.
