Biological Activity

Carbamoylcholine chloride (Carbachol) is a cholinergic agonist that targets both muscarinic and nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. Activation of muscarinic receptors by carbachol stimulates G-protein-coupled signaling cascades, such as the PLC/IP3 pathway, leading to intracellular calcium mobilization and activation of downstream protein kinases. Concurrently, stimulation of nicotinic receptors opens ligand-gated ion channels to induce membrane depolarization and rapid cellular responses in neuronal and non-neuronal cells. [1]
