Biological Activity

BMY 7378 Dihydrochloride is a selective α1D-adrenoceptor antagonist and a 5-HT1A receptor partial agonist/antagonist. It selectively binds and inhibits α1D-adrenoceptors over other adrenergic receptor subtypes, modulating vascular tone and smooth muscle contraction. Additionally, BMY 7378 interacts with 5-HT1A serotonin receptors to regulate serotonergic neurotransmission and downstream signaling pathways. These selective pharmacological actions make it a valuable tool for distinguishing α1D-adrenoceptor function in cardiovascular and central nervous system research. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
