Biological Activity

Bleomycin hydrochloride is a natural glycopeptide antibiotic and DNA synthesis inhibitor. It binds to nuclear DNA and induces single- and double-strand DNA cleavage in a metal-dependent manner, leading to cell cycle arrest in the G2/M phase. Downstream inhibition of DNA replication disrupts cell proliferation and triggers apoptotic cell death, demonstrating potent cytotoxic and antitumor activity against squamous cell carcinoma. [1][2]
