Biological Activity

Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate is a synthetic phthalate ester and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) activator that acts as an endocrine disruptor. It alters gene expression pathways involved in lipid metabolism and endocrine signaling, leading to cellular stress and phenotypic dysregulation. In aquatic models such as larval zebrafish (Danio rerio), exposure induces DNA strand breaks and transcriptional alterations that impair physiological development. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
