Biological Activity
Bilastine is a highly selective second-generation histamine H1 receptor antagonist that displays potent antihistaminic activity. By blocking histamine H1 receptors, it suppresses downstream histamine-mediated signaling, effectively inhibiting capillary permeability, smooth muscle contraction, and inflammatory mediator release in allergic responses. Bilastine demonstrates a rapid onset and prolonged duration of action while exhibiting low affinity for other muscarinic or adrenergic receptors, minimizing central nervous system sedation. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
