Biological Activity

Benzyl-α-GalNAc is a cell-permeable inhibitor of mucin-type O-glycosylation. By blocking O-glycan elongation, it impairs mucin biosynthesis and suppresses downstream cellular processes such as hepatic stellate cell proliferation and extracellular matrix deposition, including α-SMA and collagen I/III production. Furthermore, attenuation of mucin expression by Benzyl-α-GalNAc overcomes chemoresistance and enhances the therapeutic efficacy of 5-Fluorouracil in cancer models.

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
