Biological Activity

AZD1656 is a potent, selective, and orally active activator of glucokinase (GK). By directly activating glucokinase, AZD1656 increases enzymatic glucose phosphorylation, which promotes hepatic glucose utilization and stimulates glucose-induced insulin release from pancreatic beta cells. In preclinical mouse models, glucokinase activation by AZD1656 enhances systemic blood glucose clearance and regulates downstream hepatic metabolic signaling pathways. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
