Biological Activity

AZD1152 (Barasertib) is a potent, selective inhibitor of Aurora B kinase. In plasma, AZD1152 is rapidly converted to its active metabolite, AZD1152-HQPA, which selectively targets the Aurora B catalytic domain. Inhibition of Aurora B disrupts chromosome alignment and segregation during mitosis, impairing cytokinesis. Consequently, AZD1152 suppresses cell proliferation, prevents cell division, causes polyploidy, and induces apoptosis across multiple cancer cell lines. [1][2]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
