Azaguanine-8 (NSC-749) is a purine analog and antimetabolite that exhibits potent antineoplastic activity by competing with natural guanine in cellular metabolism. Upon uptake, it interferes with purine salvage pathways and nucleic acid biosynthesis, incorporating into cellular RNA to disrupt essential protein translation processes. This incorporation impairs tumor cell survival and inhibits proliferation, driving cytotoxicity across various neoplastic cell lines.
