Biological Activity

Atomoxetine HCl is a selective norepinephrine transporter (NET) inhibitor (Ki of 5 nM) with 15-fold and 290-fold lower affinity for human serotonin and dopamine transporters, respectively. Inhibition of NET blocks norepinephrine reuptake, resulting in elevated extracellular levels of norepinephrine and dopamine, particularly within the prefrontal cortex. This enhancement of central monoaminergic neurotransmission regulates attention, cognitive performance, and behavioral responses in preclinical models. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
