Biological Activity

Antalarmin hydrochloride is an orally active, non-peptide corticotropin-releasing hormone receptor 1 (CRHR1) antagonist with a Ki of 1 nM. By blocking CRHR1, it inhibits CRH-induced adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) secretion and attenuates CRH-mediated and novelty-induced anxiety-like behaviors in preclinical models. Furthermore, this antagonist demonstrates anti-inflammatory activity in arthritis models and reduces stress-induced gastric ulceration associated with irritable bowel syndrome. [1][2]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
