Alvimopan is a potent opioid receptor antagonist targeting the μ-opioid receptor (Ki 0.77 nM), δ-opioid receptor (Ki 4.4 nM), and κ-opioid receptor (Ki 40 nM). By selectively blocking peripheral opioid receptors, it prevents opioid-induced inhibition of gastrointestinal motility without compromising central analgesia. This antagonism restores normal peristalsis and accelerates gastrointestinal recovery in preclinical models of bowel dysfunction. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
