Biological Activity

Alpha-mangostin is a dietary xanthone that acts as an inhibitor of mutant IDH1-R132H (Ki 2.85 μM) and serves as a STING agonist. By selectively targeting mutant IDH1, it disrupts altered cellular metabolism and reduces downstream 2-hydroxyglutarate production. Furthermore, STING activation modulates innate immune signaling pathways, promoting pro-inflammatory cytokine expression and triggering apoptotic cell death in cancer cells. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
