Alda-1 is a small-molecule agonist of aldehyde dehydrogenase-2 (ALDH2) that activates both wild-type ALDH2*1 and mutant ALDH2*2 isoforms. By enhancing ALDH2 activity, Alda-1 facilitates the detoxifying clearance of reactive aldehydes, such as 4-hydroxynonenal, and mitigates oxidative stress-induced cellular damage. Consequently, ALDH2 activation by Alda-1 attenuates ischemic injury and protects mitochondrial function in preclinical cardiovascular models. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
