Saxagliptin is a potent, selective, and reversible dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that inhibits DPP-4 activity with an IC50 of 50 nM. By inhibiting DPP-4 enzymatic activity, saxagliptin prevents the degradation of incretin hormones, including glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). This preservation of active incretins enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion and suppresses glucagon release, thereby regulating glycemic homeostasis and improving metabolic function. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
