Biological Activity
Ribavirin is a synthetic guanosine analogue and antiviral agent targeting cellular inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH) and viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerases. Inhibition of IMPDH by ribavirin 5'-monophosphate depletes intracellular GTP pools and disrupts RNA metabolism required for viral replication. Additionally, ribavirin enhances host T-cell-mediated immunity against viral infections by shifting the T-cell immune response from a type 2 to a type 1 phenotype. [1]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
- Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).

Pre-aliquoted for Longevity: Solid-state aliquots offer longer shelf life compared to stock solutions.
