Biological Activity

Ranitidine Hydrochloride is a histamine H2-receptor antagonist with an IC50 of 3.3 ± 1.4 μM. By selectively blocking histamine H2 receptors on gastric parietal cells, it inhibits histamine-stimulated gastric acid secretion and reduces basal gastric acid production. This targeted receptor antagonism suppresses downstream secretory pathways, thereby attenuating gastric mucosal acid burden and supporting cell signaling research into acid-peptic regulation.

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
