Praziquantel is a synthetic anthelmintic agent effective against flatworms, including schistosomes. It increases the permeability of parasite cell membranes to calcium ions, leading to rapid intracellular calcium influx. This process induces severe muscle contraction, paralysis, and tegumental damage in susceptible parasites. Consequently, paralyzed parasites are dislodged from host tissue sites and subsequently cleared or destroyed by host immune mechanisms. [1]
