Oxcarbazepine is an anticonvulsant compound that functions as a voltage-gated sodium channel inhibitor. By stabilizing the inactivated state of voltage-gated sodium channels, oxcarbazepine suppresses high-frequency repetitive action potential firing in cortical neurons. This sodium channel blockade inhibits presynaptic sodium influx, subsequently attenuating neurotransmitter release and reducing sustained neuronal hyperexcitability within central nervous system pathways.
