Obatoclax Mesylate (GX15-070) is a small-molecule antagonist of the Bcl-2 family of anti-apoptotic proteins. By antagonizing anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 members such as Bcl-2 and Mcl-1, it prevents their interaction with pro-apoptotic proteins, promoting mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization and the release of apoptogenic factors. This activation of mitochondrial apoptotic signaling pathways induces dose-dependent apoptosis and overcomes Mcl-1-mediated resistance in cancer cells. [1]
