Sodium Monensin (NSC 343257) is a naturally derived polyether ionophore antibiotic that functions as a selective Na+/H+ antiporter to disrupt intracellular ion gradients. By disturbing transmembrane electrochemical homeostasis and vesicular Golgi apparatus transport, it effectively inhibits cell proliferation and downregulates androgen receptor signaling pathways, ultimately promoting cell cycle arrest and inducing apoptosis in human cancer cell lines. - Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
- Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
- For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
- Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
Pre-aliquoted for Longevity: Solid-state aliquots offer significantly longer shelf life compared to stock solutions, ensuring maximum stability for every use.
