Biological Activity

L-Ascorbyl 6-palmitate is a synthetic lipophilic derivative of L-ascorbic acid that acts as an antioxidant and dietary inhibitor of tumor promotion. Treatment with L-ascorbyl 6-palmitate significantly inhibits 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate-induced skin tumor promotion in murine models. Mechanistically, L-ascorbyl 6-palmitate suppresses epidermal lipid peroxidation and ornithine decarboxylase activity, thereby mitigating oxidative stress, attenuating downstream inflammatory pathways, and reducing epidermal hyperproliferation. FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
