Biological Activity

Flavopiridol (Alvocidib) is a broad-spectrum cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) inhibitor targeting CDK1, CDK2, CDK4, CDK6, and CDK9 with IC50 values ranging from 20 to. By blocking CDK activity, it disrupts cell cycle progression, leading to G1 and G2 phase arrest, suppression of cell proliferation, and down-regulation of cyclin D1. Additionally, flavopiridol induces apoptosis via caspase 3/7 activation, triggers endoplasmic reticulum stress, and promotes autophagy across various cancer models. [1][2]

Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
