Ellagic acid is a natural polyphenol antioxidant that acts as a dual inhibitor of topoisomerase I and topoisomerase II. It exhibits potent antiproliferative activity by impairing topoisomerase-mediated DNA cleavage and modulating downstream cell survival pathways. Through these combined antioxidant and topoisomerase inhibitory mechanisms, ellagic acid effectively suppresses tumor cell proliferation and retards the growth of carcinogen-induced tumors in various pre-clinical models.
