Biological Activity

Dienogest is an orally active synthetic progestin that acts as a progesterone receptor agonist with selective antiandrogenic activity. By binding to progesterone receptors, it modulates downstream steroid receptor signaling pathways to inhibit cell proliferation and attenuate pro-inflammatory cytokine expression, including interleukin-8 and prostaglandin E2. Consequently, dienogest reduces inflammatory mediator secretion and suppresses endometriotic lesion growth and proliferation in cell and tissue models. [1]

FAQ
Q: Why does a DMSO stock precipitate in media/saline?
A: It is caused by unheated aqueous media (supersaturation), local solvent shock, or incorrect mixing sequence.
How to fix it?
  • Preheat media/saline to 37°C.
  • Mix rapidly (pipette/vortex) upon addition.
  • For complex mixes, always add the aqueous phase last.
  • Re-dissolve minor precipitates with a 37°C water bath and sonication (≤30 min).
