Biological Activity

Cefprozil hydrate is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that targets bacterial penicillin-binding proteins. By binding to and inhibiting these essential penicillin-binding proteins, cefprozil hydrate disrupts peptidoglycan cross-linking during bacterial cell wall synthesis. This pathway impairment weakens structural integrity, ultimately causing cell wall degradation, suppression of bacterial growth, and osmotic lysis across a broad range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial species.
